Apply: Natural Systems Purify Water

Problem: You are going to be using the Technology Design Model (TDM) to develop a process to filter water. After conducting research about how water is filtered, both naturally and commercially develop and test three different processes for filtering water.

Criteria and Constraints:water

  • Your 3 selected processes will reflect your research.
  • At least one process must be based on a natural filtering process.
  • At least one process must be based on a commercial filtering process.

Background Information: Filtered, purified and bottled water have become increasingly popular over the past 20 years. At one time there was no marketplace for the sale of refined water. Now, the sale and distribution of drinking water is big business. Some companies like Gatorade are even marketing "fitness water" like Propel that claims to be vitamin enhanced water with less flavoring than their other sports drinks. Since purified water is in such demand, develop your own way to filter water.
