In this discussion, you will consider those goods that you use on a typical day, that are currently disposable but that could be replaced by more permanent items. You will suggest implications for future expansion of the use of disposable items, suggested changes to reduce use of disposables. and suggestions to your classmates on reducing their use of disposables.

Discussion Assignment:

It is easier to throw away a paper plate than to wash a dish, but what impact does it have on our world and our lives. In this discussion, you are to:

  1. Identify something that we use and dispose of. This could be a bottle of water, a paper plate, disposable diapers, or anything else meant to be used one time.
  2. Use your SUBJECT line to identify the object.
  3. In the description, briefly describe its use and some impact of that use, be it positive or negative. (Example: Positive impact - Paper plates do save time in a busy world and do provide jobs.)
  4. Play "devil's advocate" to one or more of your classmates, by challenging their positive or negative impact, or by proposing an alternative solution or undescribed impact.

Your initial posting should be added to the discussion in the first two days of this lesson (Thurs/Fri).
Your response to a classmate should be posted in the second two days (Mon/Tues).
