Research: Persuasive Writing for or Against a Technology

Earlier in this unit you looked at impacts of technology and you had some experience assessing trade-offs of technology. Now that you have seen how culture impacts the design and development of certain technologies you need to use this knowledge to assess a piece of technology.

Pick a piece of technology that is considered controversial. Choose a view point, either for or against this piece of technology and write a paper about it. The intent of your paper should be to persuade the reader to agree with your view point. The paper should not be more than a page and should provide at least three examples that support your argument.

After you have written your paper post it to the appropriate discussion board. In the subject line you should state whether you are arguing for or against this piece of technology. The name of the piece of technology you have chosen should also be included in the subject line.
Example subject line: FOR Stem cell research

Assignment: Create a persuasive piece of writing about a piece of technology of your choice. You may argue for or against this piece of technology. When you are finished writing, submit your paper to the drop box titled Persuasive Writing. Your paper will be graded on the following.
- Choose a controversial piece of technology and take a side, either for or against it. (5 points)
- Present three (3) well written examples that would persuade the reader of your piece to agree with your side of the argument. (5 points each)
- Use more than one information source and cite your source.
