Apply the Design Process

Designs start with a problem, a want or need that must be satisfied through a technological product or system. Unfortunately, in many cases, the problem is not clearly defined.

Problem: You are going to be using the Technology Design Model (TDM) to design a way to make a container tamper evident or make an existing tamper evident container better.

If you need help remembering the parts of the TDM click here. container

Criteria and Constraints:

  • The design must be such that when the container is tampered with it is obvious to another person that the container has been tampered with.

Background Information: Tamper evident containers help keep people safe by letting them know a problem could exist with a product they may have purchased or may want to purchase. A well publicized case of product tampering is the 1982 tampering of the over the counter pain reliever, Tylenol.™ People were concerned for their safety and wanted manufactures to develop a method to let them see if a product has been tampered with. Today almost all containers have some sort of tamper evident "seal" on them.

Materials

  • A container that can be found in your house.
  • Various household materials sufficient to make it tamper proof.

Presentation: Complete the design folio using either of the two templates below:

Assignment: After you complete this project, you will complete the rubric that is included in the Design Folio Template. After you have completed the rubric, upload your completed Design Folio to the Tamper Evident Container drop box.
