practiceProblem Statement: In this project, you will study the communication preferences of three generations of people, and use that information to predict and design a communication device useful to all generations, or to a future generation.

Background: Communication technologies are rapidly evolving. As communication changes, not all segments of our society (not all generations) adapt to these changes more readily than others. By considering the communication styles of multiple generations, we can best design communication technologies to serve everyone.

Directions (Overview)

Briefly, each student will:

  1. Develop a survey designed to assess communication preferences and behaviors.
  2. Conduct the survey on at least three different generations of respondents.
  3. Use the data you collect to analyze the communication differences between generations.
  4. Design and develop a prototype or detailed diagram of a communication device to best meet the needs all all sampled generations or of a future generation.
  5. Analyze feedback on your design, from your survey respondents to determine how well your solution meets the identified needs of each generation.
