Project: Prototype Development

prototypePrototypes are fully functioning models. They are necessary to test designs and communicate design ideas. Your task is to design anything that serves a purpose. You will then create a prototype of your new design. Keep your design simple.

Your design must demonstrate consideration for at least three (3) of the following design factors:

  • safety
  • reliability
  • quality control
  • ergonomics
  • flexibility of use

Your product may be an innovation to an existing product. Your model or prototype may be a physical model, a working prototype, OR a diagram or drawing.

Project Details: Prototype Development (20 points)

Decide on your new invention or innovation. Create a working prototype, model or diagram to communicate the function of the design or test the solution. Each student will:

  • Determine a new invention or innovation that serves any purpose. (5 points)
  • Create a working prototype OR model with diagram showing the functionality of your design. (5 points)
  • Include pictures or a video of your project that demonstrates the function of the design. (5 points)
  • Briefly describe how a prototype of your design would be helpful for testing the design or communicating design ideas. (5 points)

Submit your finished assignment to the Prototype Development Dropbox before the due date listed on the course calendar.
