Analyze: Durable and Non-durable

nondurable goodIn this activity, you will analyze and evaluate the durable and non-durable goods used in any household process. You will then make recommendations to improve the process through changes to the use of the durable and/or non-durable goods.

Assignment:

Consider any household routine, be it preparation of dinner or bag lunches for school, doing laundry, or maintaining the lawn.

  1. Identify and briefly describe the household process or routine.
  2. List all equipment and materials needed to complete the task, identifying each as durable or non-durable.
  3. Provide a summary recommendation to a change in the process, equipment or materials used, that would result in lesser use of non-durable goods.
  4. Provide your opinion as to whether the change is a positive one. In this area, opinions may vary. For example, although the use of disposable paper plates increases the waste of paper and trees, is it a greater environmental negative than the energy used in a dishwasher, and the chemicals used to clean dishes?

Submit your analysis of not more than one page, to the Durable / Non-durable dropbox.
