Discussion: What's My System?

Congratulations! You can have any technological system that you want. All you need to do is describe it. Within that description, include the requirements for that system. Refer to the presentation on Core Concepts of Technology for more on requirements. Identify any criteria and constraints related to this system including things such as materials or costs.

When you have decided on the technological system you want, you will present it as requirements, without identifying the system. Your goal in this assignment is to describe a system by its requirements in a manner clear enough for your peers to identify the system, from its requirements.

Discussion Guidelines: What's My System? (20 points)

Complete this OR the Core Concepts ID assignment. Select a technological system and identify it's requirements. Without giving away the name of the piece of technology, describe the requirements to your classmates and see if they can guess it. Read your classmates posts and try to guess their chosen technology. Each student will:

  • Describe the system, its function, performance standards, criteria and constraints, without naming the object. (5 points)
  • Write a brief analysis (50 words or less) on how your criteria and constraints involved some trade-offs in the final design. (5 points)
  • Attach a sketch, image, or illustration of your technology to your post so other students can see if their guess is correct. (5 points)
  • Reply to one of your classmates trying to guess the system they described. Explain how you arrived at this guess based on the description. (5 points)

Post your initial post and reply to the What's My System? Discussion Board before the due date listed on the course calendar.
